In time for the holiday books season, Ottawa author Ilze Berzins has arrived back in the stores with a second murder mystery — Revenge on the Rideau (Albert Street Press, $20). For those looking for the comfort of familiar territory with their crime, Berzins’ latest, like her last, Death in the Glebe, will fill the bill. This contemporary drama which deals with a Holocaust victim’s wrenching discovery of the man who slaughtered her family half a century ago, is a cleverly constructed thriller flush with surprising detail — human and historical. Berzins whose Glebe mystery was the toast of that neighborhood, points out that murder is but one of the elements that connects the old world with the present in her new novel.
